For those companies that use respiratory sensitizers COSHH risk assessments may identify that despite controls in place employees remain at risk of occupational asthma. These companies are required to have in place a programme of respiratory health surveillance and to report under RIDDOR any employees diagnosed with Occupational Asthma. Arden Occupational Health can help companies develop and implement such a programme as well as administer the checks to employees. It is important for an employer be able to justify the level of health surveillance that they offer and there is preparatory work to be done to ensure that the programme is suitable and sufficient for the purpose intended. Individuals showing signs or symptoms of occupational asthma will be required to undertake further assessments. Employees should be fully aware of the programme and its implications.

Elements of the programme:

  • Development of a company specific plan
  • Administering and interpreting questionnaires at appropriate intervals
  • Breathing tests by spirometry
  • Further doctor examination and assessment for potential cases of occupational asthma including regular breathing tests over a few weeks (serial peak flow) for selected employees
  • Clear reports sent to allow companies to keep their required health records for employees in the programme regarding their fitness for work

Potential referral to consultant for formal diagnosis of occupational asthma.

Time & Price:   Variable dependant on the programme required by the client
