Certain employees can cause concern to their employer for a variety of reasons including:

  • Prolonged sickness absence or repeated short term absence
  • Return to work following an accident at work
  • Employees reporting that they feel that they cannot do certain elements of their role due to health problems
  • Application for ill health early retirement
  • Employer concerned that an individual is incapable of ever doing their full job because of medical reasons
  • Uncertain if reasonable adjustments are required for an individual under the disability elements of the Equality Act 2010.

Evaluating such people can be a challenge for an employer and an IMA can help to address such difficulties.

Elements of Assessment:

  • Issue to you as the employer a tailored referral form which will help you identify exactly what questions you want answering regarding an individual and also to provide any additional information you feel relevant for the assessment.
  • Review of an employee’s current medical symptoms, what investigations have been arranged/undertaken so far and if availabe what the results indicate.
  • Physical examination as appropriate.
  • Evaluation of the medical situation to identify the severity of the problem, likely recovery time andwhether the individual has been receiving appropriate care for their condition.
  • Discuss with employee their perceived barriers in returning to work.
  • Agree an approach for the way forward including practical steps to help the employee return to, or remain in, work both for the employer and the employee’s perspective including advice on adjustments or other support that may be helpful.
  • Formulation of a helpful positive report that gives sufficient information to the employer to address their questions.
