This medical examination is required for:

Workers exposed to the use of hand held vibrating tooling as defined by the Health and Safety Executive in the Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005. HAVS is a condition that is reportable under RIDDOR and can cause considerable disability to the individual affected.

Workers exposed to the use of hand held vibrating tooling should receive regular health surveillance if the risk assessment indicates that there is a risk to the health of employees who are, or are liable to be, exposed to vibration; or if employees are likely to be exposed to vibration at or above an exposure action level.

Elements of medical:

  • Annual Questionnaire for exposed workers
  • Review of questionnaires by a clinician and specialist examination of those with symptoms where indicated
  • Diagnosis of the condition if present
  • Advice of restriction and follow-up for individuals as required

N.B. The doctor may recommend further specialised testing for certain employees if medically indicated
